sound(S)FEST 11

SECO PEARL----JULY 16th. sound(S)FEST carries on for SuanFest, (only for a day as SuanFest 12 will return to 3 peaks July 15-17 2011). 7 bands in 7 hours. 2 stages. Thanks to Bobby Joe & Nina & Nate & all of the musicians...sorry there aren't more pictures, but I ran out of batteries during the One-Minded-Nimble-Animals-Here set. ABOVE: Grace O'Malley & the Dilly-Dallies warming up the day.

Tuesday K & the Slap-Sticks
ALSO opened up the day.
A good festival needs at least
2 opening acts.

The Nameless-Marching-Band
(I'm sorry, but I forget their name this time)
Scott Moore is Everywhere.

Nimble-One-Minded-Animals-Here.
Also during the day: Dylan Pappert, John Biscello & Ben Wright,

IF anyone had a camera that didn't run out of batteries
& wants to send more pictures, please send to:

miscellaneousness

Some last shots & thoughts to end the Italy chapter.
These are Teresa's match-box paintings. Tiny landscapes of the mountains
& skies of back home New Mexico.

At cooperativo Owen I met a guy playing jazz standards on a soprano saxophone.
The notes were scrolling by on this crazy-computer screen.
There was a bass & drum & chords bopping, too--the kind of sound
an organ from the 70's would make.

These are the 'beds for musicians' passing through
at Tizio's house. 6 or 7 lined up from end to end.
He is a generous host with his little house.

Ciao.
(UPDATE: from the FUTURE :)--this KITTY VEST was lost at ABQ airport--IF you see it, please let us know. Sonya made it & would LOVE to see it again!) peaceD

Legnano, Milano & Aeroporto. Ciao Italia!

The last show- a sweet little stage in a cafe inside of a park. A place full of trees with room to throw the baseball a bit. The last show. The music is excellent-someone who really knew how to play-played the tambourine with us! Tired & a little spun-out-who remembers to take pictures of the show?! Matia fits us all inside his little apartment. Tizio returns to Spino.

We wander around Milano.
Dazed.
Happy.

We can better recall it all later.

The long ride home.

Lunch at Tizio's parents' house.

Back in San Martino Spino. A good night's sleep at Tizio's farm-house. The neighbor picked a basket of zuchinni & gave them to us. Tizio delivered them straight to his mother. With that-we were all- all 9 of us-invited over to lunch; BUT where would everybody fit? A mini-crisisissimo--we brought some chairs from Tizio's & relayed this message-for Tizio's mama's cooking we would squeeze into a space the size of a cappucino cup! Ahhh...everyone loves the big praises! Tizio's father watches us climb in around the table.

No problemmisimo! The zucchini has been fried & mixed with pasta. lambrusco is poured all around. Mama watches everyone eat. Molto benne! the best ever!

We stuff ourselves. Not a bite can be left over. Tizio banters with his mama
in Italian. YES! We love the food!

Horns!
Heavy-Metal high praises.
Ciao.

HEY SUN! festival in PADOVA

Maybe it wasn't a whole day off in Venice. No, we returned to the van-Tizio was rested & ready to drive again; this time to Padova. Another outdoor festival. More excellent food (a giant plate full of barbecued meat) & laughter & more world-cup soccer, USA vs. England & another chance to play the songs.

Soundcheck.

Pink on Pink.

day-OFF in VENICE

Touristing on top of touring. A day: OFF! Tizio will sleep in the van; no need for a local to visit such a tourist mega-hotspot as Venice. We did this little detour last time. What is there to say about the place? The water is not inviting. The buildings are beautiful. I love old buildings; faded paint (but, there needs to have been some paint there at some time), & falling down looks & narrow streets. A maze with a real possibility of getting lost. I think some of us did. ABOVE, the piazza at Saint Mark's. Street vendors selling bird-seed you can hold in your hands & get covered in birds. In front of the restaurants there are jazz bands playing standards; the strange, dislocated life of the professional musician: lots of chops, but a world-weary sadness across the brow saying: "I wish I was playing..." insert any style & try it out, punk-rock, polka, electronica, who cares? the life they wish for is lost for this incarnation.

Teresa overlooking one of the many canals.

When the toilet flushes --where does it go?

Ciao Venezia!
