day-OFF in VENICE

Touristing on top of touring. A day: OFF! Tizio will sleep in the van; no need for a local to visit such a tourist mega-hotspot as Venice. We did this little detour last time. What is there to say about the place? The water is not inviting. The buildings are beautiful. I love old buildings; faded paint (but, there needs to have been some paint there at some time), & falling down looks & narrow streets. A maze with a real possibility of getting lost. I think some of us did. ABOVE, the piazza at Saint Mark's. Street vendors selling bird-seed you can hold in your hands & get covered in birds. In front of the restaurants there are jazz bands playing standards; the strange, dislocated life of the professional musician: lots of chops, but a world-weary sadness across the brow saying: "I wish I was playing..." insert any style & try it out, punk-rock, polka, electronica, who cares? the life they wish for is lost for this incarnation.

Teresa overlooking one of the many canals.

When the toilet flushes --where does it go?

Ciao Venezia!
